Meet Your Instructors

Welcome Rebekah Frisch!

Rebekah began her yogic path in her mid-20s as a way to calm her mind. “The first time I came
to yoga was to escape. I had to get out of the house in order to breathe. Sometimes we get so
wrapped up in the roles we are to others, that we lose sight of ourselves.”
Yoga has given her the freedom to simply be, allowing her to live more wholeheartedly. After
recently completing her 200-hour teacher training at River Rock Yoga and Pilates in Ocean
Springs, she hopes to share that same sense of peace with others, so they too can carry the
teachings off the mat and into their daily lives.
Outside of the studio, you can find Rebekah on the trails every chance she gets.

Welcome Katherine Frisch!

My yoga journey began after college, when I was searching for a healthier lifestyle and tools to
manage anxiety. Through yoga, I discovered a sense of peace and grounding that inspired me
to continue learning and deepening my practice. Recently, I completed my 200-hour yoga
teacher training with Moira Anderson at River Rock Yoga and Pilates in Ocean Springs.
I am passionate about creating mindful, accessible practices and weaving my love of nature into
yoga, both on and off the mat. I aim to offer classes that encourage students to slow down,
reconnect, and move with intention. Outside the studio, you can find me reading, hiking, and
exploring new places.

from Courtney

I took my first yoga class when I was in college. I wanted to make new friends and quite frankly I figured I’d be good at it since I had taken gymnastics as a kid and danced through high school. I didn’t make friends, and maybe I was good at it, maybe not…but I did experience a new level of peace and a blissful meditative state that I had never felt before. My captivation with yoga had taken root.

A few years after those initial classes in 1999, I began practicing regularly and I felt the call to teach.

Melissa Green (aka Big Mel)

My wellness journey began in 1995, following my Dad’s heart surgery. This moment sparked an awareness of my family’s history with this disease (my uncle had passed prior to my father’s surgery) and opened my eyes to the importance of health and prevention.

Guided by mentors and Pilates trainers Mary Francis Blackard and Christy Blackwell, I built my foundation in traditional mat Pilates, rooted in Joseph Pilates’ original methods. Over the years, I have expanded my knowledge and practice to include: Reiki Energy Healing, Barre, PiYo, as well as Pilates-based strength training.

For me, Pilates has been more than group fitness: it has empowered me with physical strength, while deepening my faith and spirituality. I am passionate about helping others to: jumpstart their own wellness journeys; cultivate strength from the inside out; and live longer, healthier lives. Wellness is for everyone and my goal is to bring it to them!

2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

Tammy Kolbo

I discovered yoga in 2001, shortly after turning 40, during a busy season of life as a mom, personal trainer, and lifelong athlete. What began as a new addition to my fitness routine quickly transformed into a deeply healing and grounding practice that continues to shape my life and work.

In 2002, I opened Hattiesburg’s first yoga studio, The Yoga Room, and began teaching full time, drawing on my background as a registered nurse and fitness professional. Over the years, I have trained with highly respected teachers across various schools and disciplines becoming an E-RYT 500, a Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) and a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT). I’m also a Level One iRest® Meditation Teacher, and a Senior Consultant with the Gulf Coast Trauma Institute.

Since 2005, I have developed several Yoga Therapy programs at Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services working with individuals in recovery from addiction, trauma, and mental health challenges. My teaching blends functional movement, nervous system regulation, and mindfulness, supporting students of all backgrounds—from athletes and artists to teens and those navigating life transitions.

Above all, I remain a lifelong student of yoga. It is my joy to share this practice and help others find strength, presence, and healing—on the mat and beyond.

Stacey Ready

My first yoga experiences were as a kid in the ’70’s (groovy babe), and continued sporadically until I began taking classes on the Southern Miss campus while juggling grad school, work, family, and an active social life. I worked yoga into my already active physical fitness program, and I admittedly would skip out during savasana to return to the gym for something more active. Then one day I realized that I really, really needed that part of class! I realized it was okay to be still and relax and calm my system. Yoga opened my eyes to the many mind, body and spirit benefits it affords practitioners. It’s such a wonderful addition to one’s life as there’s many different variations that fit where we are on any given day. After my retirement from Southern Miss during the Covid epidemic I used my downtime to become a certified yoga instructor in order to share my love of yoga. In 2023 l completed my 200 hour level certification and have continued to attend workshops for additional training. I look forward to meeting you and sharing our yoga journeys together! Namaste.
